Naiya Satya McClay (they/them) is a Philadelphia based painter and sculptor. Using highly saturated color schemes and exaggerated figures, their works depict playfully satirical and indulgent scenes of the self as caricature, blurring the line between the blissfully ignorant and deliciously explicit narratives of memory. Framed in ambient yet familiar landscapes, the pieces encourage the voyeur; consume, project, and center oneself in the intimacy of shared experience and emotion to consider the reality of being the same one person our whole lives. Circling ideas of consumable identity, queerness, subjective femininity, and sardonic self reflection, the work tenderly taunts memories of love, loss and the many versions of oneself that dance in between.
